QRA Zoom Meeting Gets Visit From Japan

Last nights Quannapowitt Radio Associations Zoom meeting on The W1AW Video Tour turned into a surprise for a few of our members. As the meeting was about to take place another ham operator signed into the meeting. His name is Skip Y Sugimoto JE2HCJ from Japan. Its a funny story according to Bob Reiser AA1M and club secretary. Seems when Bob was sorting his personal contacts for one of his upcoming ARRL awards he added Skips e-mail to our Zoom meeting invite without really knowing it. Bob was quite surprised when Skip asked for the login. Nothing was said to any of the members until Skip signed in. Skip started his day off by watching the Video and then answered a few questions from some of the members. It was a very enjoyable evening by all the members and guests who attended. Skip was very impressed with the video and the welcomed by all. A promise to keep in touch and possibly attend the next months meeting by Skip before login out and taking off to work . The QRA would like to thank the ARRL, Jeff Fox K1GF and W1AW Station Manager Joe Carcia NJ1Q for making the video. It makes it possible for those unable to visit W1AW come true.

Great SKYWARN Presentation

On 3/18/2021 ARES SKYWARN Coordinator Rob Macedo KD1CY gave an excellent presentation all about SKYWARN.
The slides, pictures and examples were not only informative but gave a better understanding of what SKYWARN is and the very important roll they play in weather related emergencies. For those QRA members who were unable to attend this meeting Rob is going to send me some of the slides to pass along in our news letter.
On behalf of All the QRA members we would like to extend our thanks to Rob for taking his time doing this presentation and all he does for SKYWARN and Amateur Radio.
Here are a few links well worth checking out.
Eastern Massachusetts ARRL

James Murphy Jr. N1FXL (SK)

I’m sorry to announce that QRA member Jim Murphy, N1FXL became a Silent Key. Jim passed on Wednesday May 20, 2020 after a stay in the hospital . There is no plan for a service or memorial at this time, but his XYL (wife) said there  will be a get together in the near future to honor him. Jim and his wife Abbie were involved in the Quannapowitt Radio Association and  Jim served on the BOD in 1995-1996 and as VP for two terms from 1996 to 1998.

He will be missed at the QRA and by his friends on the different nets he visited.
